Fish meat is important for human nutrition because it is a reach source of high value and easily digestible proteins, multiple unsaturated fats, fat soluble vitamins and minerals. Owing to several wholesome effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are found only in fish, nutritionists and medical professionals classify the fish meat among protective foods.
Cookery is art, a combination of creativity and imagination. Fish and seafood offer a wonderful basis to set the culinary imagination free. We can prepare them rather quickly and easily, but there is opportunity also to employ more advanced and longer procedures.
The fish and seafood are specific according to their nutritional composition and characteristics, and for an excellent masterpiece one has to be familiar with several principles and culinary secrets. Those secrets might be hidden and unknown to people who do not live by the sea. You know – no book can reveal the skills that can be obtained only by practical work and experiences.
Renowned experts in the field of biology and food technology with years of experience in the farming, fishing and processing of marine fish will introduce you to the economic and nutritional significance of marine fish caught in our Adriatic sea. Well-known masters in cooking, skilled in fish food preparation will join us. You will learn how to tell the freshness and quality of fish, how to trim (debone) and prepare them in the best appropriate way for the particular species. Of course, the culinary workshop will end with tasting the dishes that you will prepare by yourself under our professional guidance.
We are convinced that you will leave the workshop with pleasant impressions and new skills that you can pass on to your home, friends and above all, that you will set your heart at fish and sea food and include them more often on your menu. By doing so, you will do a lot for yourself and for your health.
The culinary workshop is appropriate for all fans of culinary art, young or old, men and women.
The workshop will also be adapted to younger visitors and children (primary school, secondary school and university students) with the objective to teach them at an early age about advantages of consuming fish and seafood. The cookery workshops will be led by renowned professionals in biology, food technology and culinary art.
Among the Slovenians the fish is not sufficiently known, appreciated and consumed, therefore the main objective of the workshop is to raise the level of knowing this food and the culinary advantages of fish and sea food, and as a result increase the consumption of fish in Slovenia.
Participants in our programme will learn about the economic and nutritious importance of the fish caught in our Adriatic Sea. They will learn to determine the freshness and quality of fish, about cleaning and various preparation procedures of fish specialties.
