Aleš Bolje is a graduate of the Faculty of Biology (Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Biology), University of Ljubljana, and a Master of Oceanologic Sciences from the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He also completed a 6-month specialization in aquaculture in Japan. Professionally, he is engaged in marine aquaculture and fishery and also cooperates with the Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia as a professional expert.
He was the first to professionally evaluate the ichthyofauna of the Gulf of Triest in the late 1980's. Aleš Bolje introduced the farming of sea bass and seabream in Slovenia according to meshed-cage technology, and established the system of growing these fish species as fish farming (presently in the Fonda Fish Farm, sea bass farming).
Further to his scientific work in the field of fishery and mariculture, he headed the purchase and production unit and obtained a thorough knowledge of production processes in fish and sea food processing, of production (quality) control and the HACCP system.
At the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment he was involved in various work groups for the preparation of legislation on marine fishery and food processing industry, and helped to design research projects on fisheries. As a member of the negotiating team in the course of screening (accession negotiations) he was in Brussels in 1998 working on the harmonization of our legislation with the EU legal system (Acquis Chapter VIII - Fisheries).
As a researcher in the R&D Department of the former corporation Droga Portorož (now Droga-Kolinska) he was well acquainted with the Sečovlje Saltpans area, where he took part in research projects on the brine shrimp (Artemia salina), green alga (Dunaliella salina), sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), sea bream (Sparus aurata), Corbella (Umbrina cirrhosa), turbot (Psetta maxima), the Phillippino venus clam ? (Ruditapes philipinarum) and the bay mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis).
After her University and Master's studies in food technology at the Biotechnical Faculty of Ljubljana, Stanka Turk got employed with Delamaris, the fish processing plant in Izola. Soon she specialized in the freezing technology of fish and sea food and became member of management team at Frigomar, d.o.o. During this 18-year period she carried out many technical and technological improvements and developed several successful fish products under the Frigomar trademark.
Along with her regular work she was involved in the quality management as well, and she is still an external expert for the Slovenian Institute of Quality and Metrology in Ljubljana. She is also a prominent auditor for quality management systems under the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000 standards and the HACCP system. During the 16 years of work in this field she conducted more than 350 audits in organizations of different business activities, both in Slovenia and abroad.
In 2008 she enrolled in a Master course at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana and obtained her Master's degree in the Management and Organization.
Lately, she has set sail on entrepreneurial waters and acts as the leading auditor for various quality management systems and as a consultant on food safety systems. Stanka Turk is also a court expert for foods and food technology. She takes great delight in sharing her broad knowledge in the area of nutrition, technological and culinary fish values with the young, and holds lectures and workshops in several organizational forms.
