We will travel by different, very interesting boats.
The boat Jež is one of the rare specimens of old fishing boats, the so called seiners - trawling boats ('plavarica'), for decades fishing mostly anchovies for canned products of the local industry (Delamaris).
In the autumn and winter time, Jež is engaged in fishery. It uses the fishing technique with the so called bottom trawling net (koča). The fishing season lasts from October till the end of April when the boat Jež is refurnished for tourist excursions. During the summer she can take you for a boat trip along the Slovenian coast and offer refreshment with sea delicacies. Visitors looking for sunbathing can spend the whole day on board and enjoy the good food and drinks.
Zlatoperka is the name of an old but renovated fishing boat with a long fishing tradition. It is a rare specimen of once numerous fishing crafts, the so called seiners - "plavarica'', a great lines fishing vessel to catch anchovies with the seine of the same name for the local fish processing plant 'Delamaris'. Nowadays, the boat is still used for fishing during the autumn-winter season, while from April till end of October it is available for tourists and employed in passenger transport.
The boat is18 metres long and can carry up to 70 passengers. It is anchored on the main pier in the coastal town Izola, however, it can be arranged for visitors to embark in other ports on the Slovenian Coast, too.
Depending on the programme you choose, you can spend most of the day on board, or just transfer from one sight-seeing destination to another, or take the opportunity to see the special fishing technique of trawling, with the net gliding over the sea-bed ('kočarjenje'). According to the programme booked, there will be a tasting of seafood offered on board, such as grilled anchovies, whiting ('moli' – merlangus?) and squids.
The old-timer sailing boat Ampelea is owned by the Sinožič family, who brought their craft to Izola in 2003. Her original home was the island Dugi otok in Dalmatia, her home port was the small town Sali. She was anchored there out of use, abandoned and needing a thorough restoration. In her present appearance she was first shown on a sunny day in May 2004, when it spread its sails for the visitors. Voyage with the old-timer beauty offers an unforgettable experience. Anchored at the Fishermen's bay of Izola, that is also the starting point for a trip with the Ampelea.
The Delfin is a pretty motor boat, anchored in the Fishermen's bay of Izola. She offers individual or group panoramic excursions along the Slovenian coast, on the route Izola-Piran-Portorož-Izola. An integral part of the offer is also a fish picnic on her board with the traditional Istrian grilled fish (sardines, red scorpionfish, squids, incl. drinks; different menu arrangement can also be arranged), and bathing in the most beautiful Slovenian sea. On her board you can reach every nook and cranny on the Slovenian coast.
The Solinarka is a motor boat of 12 m length and 4.5 m width, with the capacity to accept up to 50 passengers. She can bring visitors to the heart of the Sečovlje Saltpans, the Museum of salt making in the natural reserve, or on a sightseeing trip along the entire Slovenian coast. This beautifully furnished passenger boat can also take you to each and every corner of the Slovenian seashore zone.
